Vahid Davoodi Pooya

Born in Tehran in 1977 and now based in Switzerland, Vahid Davoodi Pooya works across the creative and practical disciplines of independent filmmaking.

Television, theatre, cinema
His screen work began with television acting in Iran in 1987. He subsequently became involved in theatre, acting as well as directing, before studying film directing. These experiences form the early stages of a professional path that later expanded into writing, production and editing.

Film work
For Kermchaleh (Wormhole, 2019), he brought together the roles of director, screenwriter, producer and editor. The 15-minute short stars Mina Vahid, with cinematography by Masoud Salami. His filmography also includes a producer credit on My Dear, there are dollars between us (2019).

A multidisciplinary background
He holds a B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry from Islamic Azad University, Shahroud (1999), and completed a CAS in Manufacturing Technology at ETH Zurich in 2024. His professional experience spans film, media, international business and entrepreneurship.

Production and international work
He founded Nawesta Films and is the founder and Managing Director of Nawesta GmbH in Switzerland. His professional focus includes independent storytelling, visual narrative and cross-cultural work. This website brings together his own biography, credits and artistic record.

Recognition and festival work
Wormhole received the Jury Award for Best Film at Madrid International Film Festival in 2019. His recognition also includes Best Director at ARFF Berlin in April 2019 and the ARFF Barcelona Globe Award in 2020. He has served on the WSXA International Film Awards judging team.
